In preparation for Mother's day we here at L&B wanted to highlight some amazing moms in our area. It was tough to pick just two with so many fantastic women in our midst! Our Grand Haven team chose to feature Renee, a busy mom who still manages to look great while doing it. We were lucky enough to sit down with her in her home with all 5 of her kids and talk about her story of motherhood & daily aspirations. Here is that interview:
My journey into motherhood began when I was just 17 years old....we found out I was pregnant at the end of my senior year. That summer was a whirlwind....graduated high school, got engaged, turned 18, and got married all in 2.5 months! We welcomed our first baby boy (Jaxon) that December and my world changed forever. Exactly 17 months later (to the day!) we welcomed twin boys (Ashton & Preston) to our growing family. Thank goodness I took approximately one million pictures, because those years were a blur!
We were just getting used to having everyone potty trained when I found out I was pregnant again! I had actually gone through two miscarriages after the twins. A heartbreaking loss that more women go through than you might think, but I was always able to trust that God had a plan & purpose for it all, and I was beyond grateful for the three beautiful boys I did have. After going through the miscarriages, finding out I was pregnant again was a little scary, but I was blessed to carry my fourth son (London) full-term and welcome him to our family in March of 2009. I was feeling pretty outnumbered at this point, but there is nothing that can compare to the love a momma receives from her son, and in my case, times four; my cup runneth over!
London was about one year old when we decided to move our little family of 6 across the country to the hotter-than-Hades southern state of Mississippi. We also were surprised and completely excited to make one more addition to our family! Of course, already having four boys, my heart was longing for a sweet little girl to balance things out a little; I cried tears of joy when we found out it was indeed a girl. We welcomed a beautiful and healthy baby girl (Emercyn) in March 2011.
After moving around for a few years, we packed up all our belongings again (I'm not a fan of moving at this point) and headed to our home state of Michigan. We were only gone three years, but it seemed like an eternity and we were glad to be back home. Thank goodness we were back by friends and family, because I had no idea how much I would need them just a year later...
I was angry for a long time, but what helped me the most was continuing to go to church. Slowly, week by week, I began to heal. I began to see my marriage for what it was, no longer questioning why [the divorce] happened, but I learned to give thanks that it did happen- because my eyes and heart had been opened so much more than they were before. And for that, I am so, so grateful.
So this past year has been an adjustment, to say the least. But, all things happen for a reason and I'm excited to see what the future holds for me and my children!
Now I'm an extremely busy single mom to five amazing kiddos! In between being a full-time momma, I'm also a skincare consultant with Rodan + Fields, I work 30-40 hours/week at Bright Futures Early Learning Center, and I play the piano for a local Catholic Church! In my spare time I....wait, what is spare time???
What is your favorite part of motherhood/being a mother?
My favorite family activity is anything that we're doing together....whether it be watching a movie, kicking a soccer ball around outside, or playing Just Dance; being together is my favorite thing of all time, in the 'history of ever.'
sweet, classy, & sassy
What's your favorite purchase from L&B and why?
This is a tough one- I love EVERYTHING I have from Lee & Birch! I really love my DL skinny jeans....they are the most comfortable jeans I've ever owned and make me feel like I can conquer the world in them! What a cape is to a super hero, DL skinnies are to soccer moms. Seriously, go get some!!
What is one piece of advice for new mothers:
Sweet new mommas, I know you're tired. I know you're not used to your post-pregnancy body. I know there are so many emotions you are going through every minute of every hour of every day. I know you doubt yourself and your capabilities to love and nurture your sweet little baby sometimes and you worry about messing up so bad that he/she will need years of therapy. Stop. Stop worrying. Stop doubting. A miracle happened when you created that little life, and out of alllllll the women in the world to be your little one's momma. No one was more qualified than you. Sure, you'll make mistakes at times, but rest assured, His grace is sufficient and will carry you through.
Happy Mother's day to all those amazing moms out there!
